Homeopathy is a system of complementary medicine which is safe, gentle and stems from nearly two hundred years of observation, experiment and direct experience. Homeopathy validates the experience of the individual. People express their disorders in different ways and on different levels - physical, mental and emotional. Your homeopath will look at the totality of symptoms in order to find the remedy that best suits you as an individual. Homeopathy is not diagnostic, and you will be advised to check out your symptoms with your GP if you have not already done so.
In order to find the most suitable remedy, the homeopath will need to take a thorough medical history and gain an understanding of your individual nature and how you are affected by your illness. Thus, the initial consultation may take up to two hours, and subsequent appointments may last up to an hour.
Homeopathic remedies can work well alongside conventional medicine but it is important to tell your homeopath about any medicine or supplement that has been prescribed for you by your doctor or that you take regularly.
After careful consideration of the information from the consultation, you will be given a homeopathic remedy, usually in the form of a tablet or tablets, or in liquid form. Clear instructions will be given regarding how to take your remedy. You will be asked to make a follow-up appointment four to six weeks after your initial consultation in order to assess any changes that have occurred since you took the remedy and to make any necessary adjustments in prescription. In the meantime, patients are encouraged to contact their practitioner by phone if they wish to discuss any matters concerning their treatment or the symptoms they may be experiencing.
The time span for a course of homeopathic treatment varies widely, depending on the individual characteristics of your case.
Homeopathy can be safely used alongside most conventional medicines. Because of the minute doses used, there are no toxic side effects or risk of dependency from the remedies. This means that they can be safely prescribed for people of all ages, including babies, and also during pregnancy and breast feeding.
The fee for the first appointment reflects the time spent in consultation and analysing the case. All consultation fees include the homeopathic medicines and any support or advice needed between appointments. Occasionally a patient will be advised to take dietary supplements or to use certain topical creams which are not included in the consultation fee.
