Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy approaches problems by talking rather than surgery or drugs. Examples of such approaches include Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Therapy.

What is Hypnotherapy?

The term hypnotherapy means the use of hypnosis for the treatment or relief of problems arising from psychological causes.

What is Hypnosis?

Have you ever been so involved with a task that you have lost track of time? Have you ever driven from one place to another and arrived there safely but not remembered the journey? Have you ever read a book and became so involved with the plot that you can see the scenery and hear characters speak? Have you ever day-dreamed? These are everyday examples of an altered state of awareness.

Hypnosis is another example of an altered state of awareness - one which can be used for self help. It is a perfectly natural state which occurs between being fully awake and fully asleep. In the clinical setting hypnosis is usually accompanied by a pleasant state of physical relaxation which in itself is beneficial, especially if the symptoms are induced or aggravated by stress.

Hypnosis is a two-way activity. It requires the full co-operation of the client for it to be successful. The client must:

  1. Want it to happen
  2. Expect it to happen
  3. Allow it to happen

Hypnosis is often extremely beneficial in the relief of pain and also for helping you to relax, or in enabling you, should you wish, to talk freely about inner conflicts which you might find too embarrassing or difficult to speak of in a normal state of consciousness. There are no tricks in hypnosis and there is no magic wand that will make you stop smoking, or stop you feeling panic attacks, or cure your headaches, but the relaxation which it gives you will help you to achieve all or any of those ends if you wish to do so.

It is important to note that no-one can be hypnotised against their will and no-one can be forced to do things while hypnotised that they do not want to do.

What Conditions can Hypnotherapy Treat?

Hypnosis can free the individual from Phobias, Compulsions, Emotional Problems, Insomnia, Inhibitions, Guilt Feelings, Jealousy and many of the worries and anxieties of everyday life.
